Redondo Beach

Welcome to Redondo Beach

Powdery white sand beaches and a flourishing dining scene characterize this bustling South Bay city

California's beach cities have been stealing our hearts and soothing our senses since they were first discovered, and Redondo Beach tops the charts as one of the most vibrant coastal communities in the entire state. Located on the southern stretch of Santa Monica Bay, this jewel of an enclave bursts with history, personality, and beauty. It is a coastal haven for families, young professionals, older adults, athletes, and travelers who cherish the city’s prime amenities, spectacular beaches, near-perfect climate, superior schools, fine hotels, diverse shopping and dining, and unparalleled quality of life.

Naturally, its beaches lead the race as its chief attraction. The beach is the neighborhood’s main draw and connector to its sister cities, Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach. Whether you’re an avid surfer or passionate about beach volleyball, you’ll be thrilled by Redondo’s expanses of golden sand. Residents of this affluent, majestic area also have a bounty of world-class eateries from which to choose, which renders every day in this lively place as close as you can come to paradise.

The wide variety of homes in this beach city underscores this feeling, with options ranging from high-profile properties with million-dollar views to modern architectural wonders and Craftsman beach cottages to luxury townhomes.

Local Lifestyle

Redondo Beach organically blends a handful of characteristics that ultimately render it unique. It’s urbane and elegant, beachy and laid back, busy and peaceful. It’s an excellent fit for professionals with young children, retirees who want to bask in a seaside sanctuary, and both established and up-and-coming artists who want natural beauty for inspiration and proximity to Los Angeles’ action-filled center. You’ll often find your neighbors savoring their spare time outside, whether it’s rollerblading, cycling, or swimming.

Redondo Beach comprises two main areas: North Redondo and South Redondo. South Redondo Beach borders the Pacific Ocean on the west and contains the King Harbor Marina, abundant restaurants, and the Redondo Beach Pier. On the other hand, North Redondo is inland and has more of a residential feel; the area is home to commercial and industrial space for some of the nation’s foremost aerospace and engineering firms.

Dining, Entertainment, & Shopping

In North Redondo, shoppers take care of errands at South Bay Galleria, a mall anchored by stores like Macy’s and Target. The Galleria also contains the Wonder of Dinosaurs museum and a 16-screen AMC Theatres multiplex. For more a cosmopolitan experience, check out the restaurants and boutiques along Artesia Blvd.

A large part of Redondo Beach’s charm is that it’s home to several of the peninsula’s most mouthwatering restaurants. Gabi James delights with its splendid French-Spanish fare, like jamon-wrapped dates with Point Reyes blue cheese and pomegranate lamb chops. Bluewater Grill offers hyper-fresh, delectable seafood in a darling setting.

Superb Mediterranean cuisine can be found in spades at the bright and cheerful Turquoise Restaurant. The waterfront hotspot, R/10 Social House, mixes a rustic-chic vibe with dishes ranging from blackened scallops with mushroom risotto to Baja-style fish tacos.

Meanwhile, Rockefeller Redondo Beach enjoys radiant reviews throughout the South Bay as one of the best spots for sangria. And when the craving for fine sake and melt-in-your-mouth sushi and sashimi strikes, you have Japonica on the famed Pacific Coast Highway. It is a high-end cafe that counts seared aburi toro sushi with yuzu ponzu, housemade wasabi, and fresh chives as one of its specialties.

Things to Do

Redondo Beach’s glorious climate lends itself well to an abundance of memorable outdoor activities. The iconic Redondo Beach Pier is always alive with its panoply of dining and shopping options, to say nothing of its frequent festivals, concerts, and phenomenal sunsets.

Surfing, swimming, running, and spearfishing are often enjoyed at what’s known as RAT Beach, an expanse of soft sand and glittering water. And if you have children in your life, Seaside Lagoon offers the calm waters they might need to learn and refine their breaststroke. Redondo Beach locals and visitors alike are also huge fans of Hopkins Wilderness Park, a verdant and impeccably-kept nature preserve that’s filled with enticing picnic areas.

While you’re in the area looking for homes, save a day to explore The Hollywood Riviera, which is in the city of Torrance but has a Redondo Beach zip code. The Riviera has a distinct feel that sets it apart from neighboring communities. The neighborhood has gorgeous homes, ocean views, and Riviera Village — a delightful cluster of shops, restaurants, cafes, and galleries.
